About BWS

Our story began as and continues to be a family farm, deeply rooted in the rugged beauty of South Africa’s Bushveld. Over the last 20 years, it has transformed into a sanctuary that embodies resilience and innovation. The land has faced immense challenges—from severe droughts to conflicts between wildlife and agriculture—but each obstacle has strengthened our commitment to conservation and sustainability. These experiences have shaped BWS into a place of hope and action.

What Makes Us Unique?

Set against the iconic backdrop of the Bushveld, BWS is more than just a reserve. It’s a living laboratory where research meets action and people connect with nature meaningfully. From innovative solutions to environmental challenges, to preserving Africa’s unique ecosystems, BWS aims to lead the way.

A Legacy of Growth

Originally, BWS hosted a thriving field study program, welcoming students and researchers from around the world to engage in hands-on ecological studies. When the global challenges of COVID-19 forced a pause, the sanctuary’s vision remained steadfast. Today, BWS is reborn, combining its rich history with a forward-looking approach to protecting biodiversity and fostering environmental sustainability.
